Prolockers FAQ's

How many PROLOCKERS do I need per mower?
Only one prolocker is necessary per piece of equipment up to 1,500 lbs in weight.

What are the DOT/FMCSA requirements for Cargo Securement that ProLockers have been tested to meet or exceed?
New cargo securement rules, federally mandated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration/DOT, 49 CFR Parts 392 and 393, development of North American Standards against shifting and falling cargo final rules went into effect January 1, 2004. The intent of this rule making is to reduce the number of accidents caused by cargo shifting on or within or falling from commercial motor vehicles. However, the rule generally does not prohibit the use of tie downs and cargo securement devices currently in use. Therefore, motor carriers are not required to purchase new cargo securement equipment to comply with the rules. Safe and proper working conditions for tie-downs: Final rule includes any cargo over 5 feet in length require 4 points of contact. The use of any cargo securement device with any visible damage, including but not limited to cracks, cuts, deformation, regardless of whether there was any reason to believe there would be a safety problem are not satisfactory. Tie downs must meet applicable manufacturing standards incorporated in references in 393.102.

Cargo securement systems (ProLockers), meet new performance requirements to satisfy the new rules. The system must be capable of withstanding the following 3 forces applied separately:
1. 0.8 G's deceleration in the forward direction
2. 0.5 G's acceleration in the rearward direction
3. 0.5 G's acceleration in the latter direction
(CFR 393.102)

ProLockers are designed and tested to meet these requirements of cargo that has the tendency to shift or roll (lawn equipment, etc) up to 1,500 lbs. of weight per unit.

The new laws are designed to prevent accidents from cargo shipment or falling from a vehicle which they have found in their studies to be the cause of most accidents involving cargo. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration/DOT does not expect cargo securement systems and or devices to restrain cargo in an accident but if you are involved in an accident involving improperly secured cargo you will be held liable. Whether its a gas can or a lawn mower, it does not matter. The new laws went into effect 2004 nationwide, federal government however, allows a transition period to allow everyone to become compliant and familiarize themselves with the new laws. We are into the second year, they will not be so lenient and will begin writing tickets. $$$ Some states faster than others. The federal government, to assure enforcement of these new rules on state level, will be auditing the states on an annual basis and if they are not enforcing these new laws they will be penalized with reduction in federal funding. So make sure, whether straps or tie-downs or ProLockers, they are load graded and meet the new cargo securement rules. Not to knock anybody else's products, but the odds are if they don't state they meet the requirements, odds are that they do not.

NOTE: The entire CFR 49 393.102 is available here.

How do I get my mower past the unit if I have more than on mower?

Depending on the width of your trailer and the size of your mower’s deck you usually would not have to remove the ProLockers at all. The ProLockers can be adjusted within the mounting bracket up to 12 inches left to right or completely removed the mounting bracket with the pull of a pin.

Can I completely remove the ProLocker so that I can use my trailer for hauling, etc.?
ProLockers can be removed with the pull of a pin leaving the mounting bracket lying flat on your trailer so that your trailer can remain multipurpose.

Can I install ProLockers in my enclosed trailer with 2x6 decking?
Yes, the ProLockers hardware kit includes 2 ˝” bolts with a threaded pattern. The solution for a 2x6 deck would either be to pad the bolt with washers or purchase shorter bolts to replace the ones included in the hardware kit.

Can I interchange ProLockers units?
Yes, all ProLockers share the same footprint so they can be re-arranged on your trailer to suit your varied needs.

Are Prolockers available in more than one size?
Yes, Prolockers currently have four sizes; PEWL200- for wheels 7" to 10.5" up to 5 1/8”wide, PEWL300- for wheels 12.5" to 16" up to 7 1/8” wide, PEWL350 for wheels 16" to 20" up to 11 1/8" wide, and PEWL400 for wheels 21" to 26" up to 11 1/8”wide. PROLOCKERS are a family of wheel locking devices that are designed to secure anything with wheels that you transport for business or pleasure.

Do I need any additional straps, ties or any other components when I use my PROLOCKERS?
No, one Prolocker is all you need per piece of equipment up to 1,500 lbs. Drive in and it automatically locks your equipment into place. Pull The Quick-release pin and back out. It’s that simple….stop wasting time!

How difficult are the PROLOCKERS to install?
Very simple, all of the mounting hardware and instructions are included in the box. Set the brackets on the deck where you would normally carry your equipment, drill your holes for the brackets that stay on your deck, use the hardware that’s provided, and it’s that simple. Your done!

Can I buy separate mounting brackets so that I can move my equipment for different jobs?
Yes, the PE-WL 050 is now available. Click here to order. (Add link to pe-wl050 product page)

Can the PROLOCKERS protect my equipment from theft?
A place for a pad-lock to deter theft is located on both left and right front corners of the base plate.

How do I determine which size ProLockers would fit my equipment?
Measure the height of your tire from top to bottom at its center and measure the width of your tire to determine which ProLockers model would match your equipment.

Why would I use PROLOCKERS rather than the tie-downs, straps, chains or chocking system I already have in place?
Because time is money for one, and there is no faster securing device available at any price. Also, ProLockers meet and exceed the new DOT/FMCSA requirements CFR 49 393.102 for cargo securement systems. There are no loose parts to replace or maintain. Stop damaging your equipment and your trailers and protect yourself from an unsecured load citation.
